A year of change for procurement

Alan Heron, Head of Procurement

The procurement landscape is changing

The public and procurement sectors are experiencing a period of fluidity like never before. To some, this sustained period of change and tumult may represent uncertainty – but I believe we should look at it as an opportunity.

With yet more changes in store, 2016 is a chance for us to streamline our processes, work more efficiently and maximise the value we get from suppliers.

The challenges

Regulatory changes force us to adopt the old adage that necessity is the mother of invention.  As part of Places for People, we understand the challenges that public sector organisations, and procurement professionals, must overcome.

For housing providers, changes to social rent legislation can be the catalyst for innovation. And with budgets being squeezed across the public sector, we must find original, intelligent ways to deliver more with fewer resources.

Compounding changes to our wider operating environment are the changes to procurement itself. Public Contracts Regulations may be almost a year old, but now the European Single Document is upon us. It’s the latest in a series of significant changes to hit the sector in the last 18 months, a period that’s seen more change than the preceding 10 years.

The solution

The best way to negotiate the changing procurement landscape is to work collaboratively. Addressing procurement challenges requires us to combine tried and trusted knowledge with dynamic ways of working. By harnessing specialist knowledge, we can make significant savings – both in terms of time and money.

This is the goal of Procurement Hub. We’re connecting our members with the UK's top suppliers, consultants and contractors, all while streamlining procurement processes.

All our partners are fully OJEU compliant, removing the need for costly tender processes. And because we’re a buying club with lots of members, everyone benefits from our economies of scale. What’s more, membership is completely free

Our members are already taking advantage of our frameworks, and we’ve plenty more in the pipeline to tackle the changes we know are coming this year. Become a member to find out more about our intelligent solutions today.
