News update: New EU procurement thresholds

Sophie Quenby, Client Account Executive

New EU procurement thresholds

From the 1 January 2018 the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) announced the new procurement threshold values.

These are for the procurement of public contracts under the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, the Utilities Contracts Regulations 2016 and the Concession Contracts Regulations 2016 and will apply from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2019 for any new procurement exercises.

Traditionally the EU threshold values are changed every two years, and are designed to promote fair and transparent competition amongst organisations and suppliers for the free movement of goods and services.

In the UK there are two sets of regulations to ensure that this law is being followed; the Public Contracts Regulations and Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations. These regulations will still exist after the UK leaves the EU, yet we may find that in January 2020 we have an alternative UK Procurement Threshold update.

Whatever the outcome it is still essential that procurement is carried out within these thresholds and regulations.
