Brent Civic Centre gets a makeover with improved accessibility and enhanced facilities for all

Leading refurbishment specialist Willmott Dixon Interiors has been appointed to transform Brent Civic Centre, a prominent council building in Wembley Park. The project aims to create a more user friendly and accessible experience for all visitors, ensuring the civic centre continues to serve the community effectively.

The refurbishment project encompasses over 22,600 sq ft of space, including Wembley Library on the ground floor, customer service areas on the mezzanine floor, and the wedding suite. Accessibility is a core focus, with improvements planned to accommodate wheelchair users, parents with strollers, and individuals with varying needs. Visitors can expect a more welcoming arrival experience with a brand new main entrance and a prominent staircase.

Upgrades to the building's mechanical and electrical systems will create a brighter and more user-friendly environment for both visitors and staff. The much-used wedding area will benefit from a spacious redesign and improved acoustics for a more memorable experience.

The refurbishment plans were developed after a comprehensive review of visitor and resident needs. This included consultations with over 500 residents, focus groups with staff members, and surveys to gather valuable insights.

Willmott Dixon Interiors, awarded the contract through the Major Projects Framework 2 (MPF2), is committed to giving back to the community. Throughout the project, they will collaborate with the West London Careers Hub to provide local schools and colleges with career events, work experience opportunities, and industry knowledge sharing.

  • Neil Adams, Senior Operations Manager, Willmott Dixon Interiors: “We understand the importance of adapting to the evolving needs of the community. Brent Civic Centre is a vital resource, and this project ensures it remains a welcoming and accessible space for everyone.”
  • Councillor Fleur Donnelly-Jackson, Brent Council Cabinet Member for Customers, Communities & Culture: “This refurbishment will allow us to better serve our residents, particularly those with complex needs. We’re creating a more accessible space with improved facilities for all.”
