IMG 2425

Willmott Dixon's expertise in town centre regeneration comes to life in Halifax's new bus station.

This project goes beyond improved passenger experience, transforming the gateway to the town centre and enhancing connectivity for Calderdale residents.

The Halifax Bus Station Redevelopment is being showcased as part of UKGBC’s Biodiversity and Environmental Net Gain Project. Core objectives include:

  • Energy Efficiency and Green Features: The design incorporates renewable energy generation through solar panels and a biodiverse green roof, reducing carbon emissions and contributing to the region's net-zero targets.
  • Sustainable Materials and Practices: Construction prioritised waste reduction and responsible material management. The project also enables future electric bus charging infrastructure.
  • Promoting Active Travel: Dedicated cycle parking encourages eco-friendly commuting.

The new bus station intends to improve passengers' experience with a modern concourse, real-time travel information, and enhanced accessibility. Increased connectivity within the area should help economic growth and investment in Halifax.

However, the project extends beyond construction with a focus on community engagement and skills development through a green skills academy that promotes young people's interest in the industry through educational visits.

The new Halifax Bus Station embodies the town's vision for economic regeneration by creating a vibrant space for people to live, work, visit, and study. This project serves as a blueprint for sustainable transportation hubs that prioritise both people and the planet.

Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Committee, said: “It is more important than ever that we continue to invest in a modern, accessible transport network, which supports economic growth by connecting more people with jobs, training and education. Our region deserves a transport system which gets people to where they need to go, but also fills them with pride and with the confidence that we are moving forwards to deliver prosperity and achieve our aim of becoming a net zero carbon economy by 2038.”
