Our procurement solutions connect our partners with exceptional solutions that transform spaces and improve communities. Spinnaker House is a brilliant example of a new build extra care housing community in Rock Ferry, Merseyside. Through our Furniture and Furnishings Framework, Buckingham Interiors part of FRC Group was able to bring their expertise to Torus, and bring the project to life.
The Challenge: Creating a Home That Builds Community
When Torus was developing Spinnaker House, they envisioned more than just a building, they wanted to create homes for the community. The development, offering 102 affordable one and two bedroom apartments for residents aged 55 and over, needed communal areas that were not only functional but inviting spaces where residents could engage with each other and relax.
The project required a framework partner who could bring together aesthetic vision, functional expertise, and project management. Through our Furniture and Furnishings framework, Buckingham Interiors were able to meet the needs of our members, Torus Housing and work with them to deliver the project successfully.
The Solution: A Collaborative Vision
Buckingham Interiors worked with Torus’s Development and Supported Housing team starting with a simple design process to build collaboration and understanding.
Next steps included creating concepts and mood boards, to bring Torus’s vision to life through detailed specifications and stakeholder engagement. This collaborative approach ensured every decision aligned with the project’s goals, from practical considerations like mobility support and dementia friendly design to creating a warm, stylish aesthetic.
Turning Challenges into Opportunities
New build projects often come with unique hurdles. However, Buckingham Interiors’ ability to anticipate and address unforeseen challenges was instrumental to delivering the project to a high standard.
By maintaining open communication with contractors and the site’s management team, they adapted seamlessly to changes, ensuring schedules stayed on track and requirements were met without compromise.
The Result: Spaces That Inspire
Spinnaker House is now complete and acts as a great example of what can be achieved through our framework with partnership and thoughtful design. Each space has been crafted with care and attention to detail:

The Bistro: Open to the public, the bistro combines vibrant yellow, blue, and grey seating with maritime themed artwork and feature lighting, offering a welcoming atmosphere for dining and socialising.
-
The Salon: Equipped with professional salon chairs, wash basins, and stylish accessories, the salon provides residents with the luxury of a high street experience, right at home.
-
The Assisted Bathroom: Designed for accessibility, this space includes a motorised chairlift equipped bath, antimicrobial surfaces, and thoughtful decorative touches, balancing practicality and comfort.
